As a Clinical Sexologist Nena’s experience includes the assessment and treatment of sexual concerns such as low desire; difficulty with arousal and/or orgasm, sexual pain, couple concerns, gender questioning or having to adapt sexual activity, following surgery, injury, disease or trauma. Nena also treats sexual compulsions; paraphilias, and couples who are surviving partner deception. She has worked in the areas of: acute psychiatry, forensics, out-patient mental health, psychiatric rehabilitation and developmental disabilities where she typically treats difficulties with social-sexual boundaries and is considered an expert witness in the area of sexuality in Newfoundland and Labrador. Nena has provided workshops and seminars for most of her career and has developed and taught curriculum for health and social agencies in the areas of developmental disabilities, behavior therapy and sexuality. This included contributions to the sexuality curriculum for the MUN medical school of and to the provincial government in the development, in 2008, of the sexuality education text book for the provincial schools. She has also acted as consultant to agencies/companies (e.g. sat on the Viagra Advisory Board for Pfizer) and has been used as an expert witness in the area of sexuality in Newfoundland and Labrador. In April 2004 Nena and provincial LBGTQ representatives presented a brief to the federal government urging that they give the LGBTQ community the legal right to marry. She has worked with the hearing impaired and knows conversational sign language.
