CLINICAL Social Worker

Kristen Hynes

I am proud social worker with over 10 years’ experience in the social work field. She completed both a BSW and MSW at Memorial University in 2009 and 2015 respectively. I have always had a keen interest in assessments. I worked the majority of my career with the Department of Children, Seniors and Social Development, where social workers regularly assess parenting ability and capacity. I recently taught a social work course at Memorial University which was focused on interviewing and assessment skills and I completed additional courses and independent research on the methodology and best practices in Parenting Capacity Assessments.

In addition to parenting capacity, I have completed research and training related to the experiences of children and youth who have grown up in care, including those who age out of the system, and those who are adopted. I am a Master Trainer in ASIST, and provide training related to trauma, attachment and supervised access.

I strive to work from a strengths based, trauma informed lens, with a focus on empowerment and holistic wellness. I believe in the value of self-awareness and self-care, and I practice what I preach! I am constantly involved in my own self exploration, and actively seek out activities that help maintain my own mental wellness; I row in the St. Johns regatta, play soccer, and you’ll regularly find me on the East Coast Trails.
